Artist Statement

My current work involves writing, designing, printing and binding limited-edition artist's books by hand. These books are developed over time through the daily cultivation of imagery and content within one-of-a-kind sketchbooks and also through daily writing. My kinetic book structures explore the relationship between the book form, the physical body, and memory. The writing, both fiction and non-fiction prose, is developed through the investigation of personal memory, genealogical records, and oral histories.

Throughout the book development process, I seek to engage a dialogue between the content and form of the book; through the evolution of sketches and structural models, the book form and materials emerge as the writing also finds its form. Ultimately, the book becomes a tailored shelter as well as an uncommon vehicle for the narrative.
